IT'S WOOL FOR ALL SEASONS!

1
Don't feel like knitting up a big wool sweater right now but your fingers still have that special, "I want a new project" itch? How about whipping up a cute felted bag like Tuesday morning safari class member TERESA KACZMAREK'S Noni Betty Boop bag? Theresa used SHEPHERD'S WOOL for the bag and embellished it with felted flowers using ART YARNS BEADED SILK & SEQUINS to lend a sparkly final touch:) Not only are felted bags fun and easy to knit, they make perfect summer accessories and future holiday gifts (hint, hint)! Lovely job, Teresa! photo-140

FABULOUS FAIR ISLE!

1
After much too long an absence I visited our lovely Tuesday evening safari class tonight and was so impressed with the beautiful projects they were working on, from lovely shawls to a very colorful and fabulous Fair Isle scarf from the pattern Kimmswick by Julie Hoover. You would never guess that this scarf was Tuesday evening safari class member PATTY O'MALLEY'S FIRST Fair Isle project! Patty is using CASCADE CHERUB ARAN yarn. What yummy yarn will you choose? Way to go, Patty! photo-138

SHE GOT IT JUST RIGHT!

1
Oh so lovely! Why does Tuesday afternoon safari class member MARCIA LACKLAND look so happy? Could it be that she took extra care into getting her lovely new shawl just right and now has a beautiful and versatile accessory to add to her wardrobe which she can wear all fall/winter? Right from the start, Marcia made sure every stitch was just so, fearlessly frogging when necessary, and when she needed that one extra skein of STONEHEDGE FIBER MILL SHEPHERD'S WOOL to finish it up, she had the patience to wait for her special order to come in and finished it as it should be. In other words, she got it just right, at Woolwinders, your neighborhood yarn shop! Great job, Marcia! photo-137

NEED A BABY BLANKET QUICK?

1
Everybody seems to know someone who is having a baby lately! What is in the water?! Thanks to our own KAREN SEEK and FLO MEIT we have two pretty little simple, and fun-to-knit baby blankets on display for you. Flo knit the lovely blanket on the right using MADELINETOSH TOSH DK yarn for which a new order is being dyed for us as I type, and Karen knit the sweet pink blanket on the left using BLUE SKY ALPACA WORSTED ORGANIC COTTON of which we put out over 20 NEW COLORS TODAY! Both blankets were knitted using worsted weight yarns but you can just as easily adapt these patterns for use with DK or bulky weight yarns as well, it's all up to you and we'll help you do it at Woolwinders, your neighborhood yarn shop! photo-136

BACK TO BASICS: A PERFECT FIRST SWEATER!

1
So better late than never is my motto this month, lol! For Mother's Day this year I told my mom I would knit her a sweater of her choice. Per her specifications, she now has "a simple pink tweed cotton cardigan with pearl buttons,"- -- just a little late. The CASCADE SIERRA QUATTRO yarn was just the ticket and this very simple vanilla top down cardigan pattern made sizing a snap. It literally is a perfect basic first sweater for anyone out there who hasn't tried her hand at knitting a sweater yet. The beauty of the project: Mom gets a new sweater and it will hopefully inspire others to take the next adventurous step in their knitting journey and realize that we mean it when we say you can literally knit  almost any sweater you want with the yarn of our your choice as long as you are willing to take the time to understand gauge. If you add, subtract, multiply and divide you can understand gauge! Even the math-challenged like me:) Happy knitting, friends! photo-135
