  I spent my snow day finishing my CENTRAL PARK HOODIE (with STRIPES!) using one of my favorite yarns, STONEHEDGE FIBER MILL SHEPHERD'S WOOL from Michigan, where they know what it means to make a warm wool! And to think  it all started a month ago just before Christmas when I was shopping at the mall and saw a sweater that I absolutely loved but, alas, could not fit into. Despite my best efforts, the cooler head of my husband prevailed and I stopped trying in vain to stuff my middle-aged body into the junior-sized sweater in the middle of the store and resolved to: a) lose weight; or b)  KNIT IT MYSELF! Like a true knitter with the holidays upon me, I chose the only realistic option! Now, this pattern is a favorite of mine but the first time I knitted it, I was overly concerned about the body conscious fit of the sweater and made a size that was too big for me (as us gals hovering around the 50 mark are wont to do!).  I tried to tell myself that it was roomy and cozy, yadayadaya, but was never truly happy with my efforts. SO, when faced with the NEED of the spurned shopper (how dare they not carry this sweater in a size to fit an average woman, not a broomstick!), I re-revisited my beloved CENTRAL PARK HOODIE pattern once again, this time, spicing it up with stripes in the colors I was so wrongfully denied. The results? The colors I wanted, the fit I wanted, the sleeve length I prefer, two math-induced headaches, and one happy camper with a new sweater for these incredibly cold below zero temperatures! KNITTERS UNITE! Don't be denied beautiful knitwear because you aren't a size 2! Knitters come in ALL SIZES! And we are ALL BEAUTIFUL! Knit on, friends:)

  WE ARE OPEN TODAY! The "Polar Vortex" is over, at least the snow portion of it, and it is C-O-L-D outside! PERFECT KNITTING WEATHER! Stop in and stock up on yarn and knit up something W-A-R-M! We are expecting our new shipment of MADELINETOSH YARNS to arrive this afternoon! In fact, here's my great husband, Bob, wearing the hat I knitted him for Christmas out of MADELINETOSH PASHMINA WORSTED under all that snow, lol!

  Looks like the weather prediction of 6-10 inches of snow for our area, most of it occurring during mid-day, has closed all schools, colleges, and even federal offices. Who are we to argue? Today is a snow day for Woolwinders too. WE ARE CLOSED TODAY, TUESDAY, JANUARY 21, 2014 DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS. If you were scheduled for a safari knitting group class today, it is CANCELLED. Your instructor will contact you about making  up this missed class session. We will RE-OPEN TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 22ND per our regular business hours. Stay warm and enjoy the snow everyone! KNIT UP A STORM, LOL!

  I enjoyed the privilege today of sitting in and joining each of our Sunday Safari Knitting Group classes today for a little while and thoroughly enjoyed my time with these wonderful ladies! I can't think of a more pleasant way to pass the afternoon on my day off than knitting and sharing Downton Abbey gossip with these warm and friendly groups:) It sure beats the heck out of ironing, that's for sure, lol! Thanks, ladies, for letting me join you, for being so welcoming, and for making my happiness today a warm safari group<3

  SUSAN BILCHIK'S granddaughter is going to be one lucky little girl! With a grandmother who knits such beautiful treasures for her like this wonderful chevron-patterned baby blanket using CASCADE 220 SUPERWASH yarn, this is one little girl who is not going to want for beautiful handknitted-with-love items!
