WoolWinders Community is Staying Connected!
INTRODUCING
WoolWinders Virtual Social Safari
Knitting & Crochet Groups
At WoolWinders Yarn Shop, our monthly group classes are called 'Safari' classes. Our Safari class is our most popular class with many Safari students gaining lifelong friendships.
With the current COVID-19 pandemic we know many of our Safari friends are missing the social aspects of the classes. It's more than just the instruction (although we've been told the knitting project help is KEY!). But also the Safari classes are a way to connect with the WoolWinders community, our friends. So to help all of us out in this time of social distancing, we're offering FREE Virtual Social Safari sessions!
The Virtual Social Safari sessions are online video chat sessions hosted by a WoolWinders staff member. We are currently keeping these to a limited number of virtual seats. These web-video sessions are not meant to be instruction or project help but instead used as a way for us to all connect with each other during this difficult time. Come be social (virtually!) with us!
Find the session that works best for you, registration is free but we need your email so we can send you the session link.
As the days and weeks of our social distancing continue, we'll launch more Virtual Social Safari sessions, so check back often and register for the sessions that work for you! The WoolWinders family will get through this (albeit at a distance!).
Cashmere Event
Amy Swanson, June Cashmere Managing Director, will discuss the ongoing transformation of this economic and environmental effort in Kyrgyzstan. Amy will present an hour long program both days at noon. (See below for details). She’ll be on hand the remainder of each day to answer questions and give brief discussions. And, of course, there will be lots of samples, free patterns, a prize drawing, and heirloom quality CASHMERE YARN!!
Important ARNE & CARLOS Event Information
All classes and the lecture will be held at Ingleside at King Farm, a short walk from WoolWinders Rockville.
EVENT LOCATION
All classes and the lecture are located on the campus of Ingleside at King Farm on King Farm Blvd., a short walk (0.3 miles) from the WoolWinders shop. We are grateful to the Ingleside community for this outstanding event space. Please visit their website (https://www.ikfmd.org/) to find out more information about this wonderful retirement community in our neighborhood.
All Thursday and Friday classes are located in the Art Studio. The Thursday evening lecture is located in the Cultural Arts Center. These rooms as well as the building entrances are shown on the facilities drawing. Please note that the closest entrance to each of these locations is Lobby #2. You can, however, also enter the building through Lobby #1 at the front of the building on King Farm Blvd.
PARKING
There are several free parking choices. On site parking for Ingleside guests is located outside Lobby #2. Additional street parking is located along King Farm Blvd. All parking is first come first served so we suggest you arrive early to get to your scheduled class or lecture on time.
CLASS SUPPLIES
The pattern for each of the classes will be provided by Arne & Carlos at the beginning of each class. A list of supplies for each class is available in the class description at woolwinders.com. You can come by the shop, call the shop, or purchase your supplies online on our website. Please call us if you need help determining your supplies.
This Arne & Carlos event is sponsored by Rowan and as such, all the yarns specified for the classes are Rowan yarns. Arne & Carlos respectfully request that you use the exact yarns and colors identified in the class description.
The WoolWinders class policies apply: we require that your yarn be purchased at WoolWinders and you will receive a 10% discount on the materials needed for this class.
Please note that some classes require homework. For these classes, you will need your yarn in advance. For non-homework classes, you can make a credit card payment (either online or by phone) and we will have your supplies available the day of the class.
CHECK IN
For classes, please be present in the classroom prior to the scheduled beginning of the class to check in. For the Thursday evening lecture, please pick up your badge at the badge table prior to the schedule time of the lecture.

More about Gayle
Gayle teaches knitting classes around the country with a focus on using Japanese patterns. She loves to introduce knitters to the pleasures of Japanese designs, and her knowledge of the subject is unmatched. She majored in Japanese studies, speaks Japanese, and lived in Japan during and after her college years.
She went on to business school and worked as a management consultant all over the world, including many visits to Japan. She is an avid knitter and has been incorporating Japanese patterns for many years.
With the rise of the internet, anyone anywhere can find a wide range of Japanese books and patterns but many have found the translating difficult. Enter Gayle, who has been able to provide instruction on how to translate these beautiful patterns. Her classes have been VERY popular at events such as Vogue Knitting LIVE, Stitches, Interweave Knitting Lab, Yarnover, Madrona Fiber Arts Retreat, Sock Summit and more. Gayle’s designs have been published in Knitter’s Magazine, Interweave Knits, A Gathering of Lace, and by yarn companies. For several years she translated Japanese patterns for Dancing Fibers (now Sunrise Yarns/Diakeito), and she prepared the Japanese section for the book Knitting Languages. She also sells original work at a local fiber arts gallery.
Come meet Gayle at her book signing!
