Summer 2008 Class Schedule

The Summer 2008 Class Schedule is available here.
Sundays in the Salon

We continue our wildly popular SUNDAYS IN THE SALON this summer with a combination of gift ideas and small projects that will keep you challenged and inspired.

Missing the larger projects? We have moved those to SATURDAY KNITALONGS. Check out that schedule as well. We begin each project the first Saturday of the Month and work on the project from 2-4 each successive Saturday.

Please note: The SUNDAYS IN THE SALON and SATURDAY KALS are NOT substitutes for Beginning Knitting Instruction. All sessions require you to possess basic knitting skills: Casting On, Knitting, Purling, and Binding off. If more advanced skills are required, they are listed.

June 1: Place Mats: Tired of afghans but don’t want to worry about fitted garments? Knit these cotton placemats. Perfect for your beach house or deck table!

June 8: Lace Anklets: Get ready for tennis (or at least tennis shoes) with these adorable lace anklets. Again, there is prep work for these, so be sure to check with the shop. This is a great way to learn lace knitting.

June 15, 22, 29: Store Closed for Noni Bag Program

July 6: Cable Bag: Knit bags are all the rage and this one is easy and inexpensive. Made from the luxurious Venezia yarn, the combination of silk and wool knits to an elegant finish.

July 13: Booties for Babies: Join us in a charity project. Knit easy booties that will be brought to Zimbabwe personally, where the babies are in dire need of such items.

July 20: Easy Hat in the Round: The perfect project for a beginning knitter who wants to learn to knit in the round. Made from chunky yarn (the alpaca is delicious), this rolled watchcap is coveted by kids and adults everywhere!

July 27: Mystery Crochet Project: We’re on vacation, so you know what that means! Crochet RULES!!!! Join Marietta or Heather on a mystery tour of crochet. Project will be announced prior to our departure!

August 3: Beaded Bag: One skein of the elegant BEADED SILK yarn makes this lovely evening clutch. It will become your favorite fashion accessory!

August 10: Linen Tie: Get your son ready for his first job with this lovely linen stitch tie. One of our most popular Sunday programs!

August 17: Multidirectional Scarf: Any yarn, any width—is it a scarf? A shawl? You decide. And while you’re making it you are learning all about short rows!

August 24: Undulating Scarf: With or without beads, this is a great way to learn lace knitting. We’re making our model from the lovely Schaefer Yarn Susan, and we’ll show you other yarns to use!

September 7/14: Shrug: We made this last spring using Bamboo and then used a wonderful merinot to make one for the fall. This is the shrug that looks good on EVERYONE and is a quick and easy lace knit!

September 21: Mitered Bag: knitting is a lot of fun, and this is an uncomplicated way to learn it. You ‘ll learn about modular knitting AND felting while making this bag.

September 28: Button Wrap: Perfect for cooler fall weather, this is a simple rectangular wrap done in a mistake rib pattern and secured with three large buttons. We’ll teach you to make buttonholes, don’t worry!!!

Saturday Knitalongs

Our Saturday KALS have taken on a life of their own! Join the group for wine, snacks, and knitting your project each Saturday of the month. You don’t need to attend every session, but we do recommend that you attend the first week to get some basic instruction and guidance.

JUNE: BEACH BAG. Knit yourself a Beach Bag that will carry you and all your gear through the summer! The perfect stressless knitting—no shaping or fit!

JULY: FINISHALONG. OK, we’ve succumbed. Our customers have begged us for an opportunity to finish their numerous projects and they’ve promised that once done, Fos provide an opportunity to buy yet more yarn! So bring in your unfinished projects from past months or years (hopefully purchased here! Marietta will be on hand to assist with seaming and other finishing issues.

AUGUST: BABY OWL SWEATER. The adorable sweater hanging up above our cashstand catches everyone’s eye. Believe it or not, the pattern is from 1966! You can make this for an infant or toddler depending on yarn choice and is a great way to learn cabling. With five Saturdays in August, we bet you’ll finish the sweater during the month!

SEPTEMBER: TOP DOWN RIBBED SWEATER. Learn a new direction in knitting! If you’ve never knit from the top (or even if you have )this is a wonderful pattern, as it is shaped to a flattering line through ribbing. Any worsted weight yarn will do (we used the lovely NANCY from SCHAEFER YARN). The great thing about top down? Minimum (or no) finishing required!

Our Philosophy

WoolWinders: A Knitting Salon promises that "Your Project is Our Passion." After 27 years in corporate America, we recognize the need to exceed customer expectations at every turn.

We promise that whether you have a quick question, are working on your first or fortieth project, we will give you our unqualified attention and assistance. Part of our name, "A Knitting Salon" was chosen to reflect our desire to replicate the literary salons of old, where people who share a similar passion, can gather to chat, knit, share successes (and those spectacular knitting gaffes!) and just do something fun for themselves! We want you to enjoy WoolWinders: A Knitting Salon as much as we do.

We spent five months getting WoolWinders from a Business Plan to a store. Our time was spent in two major activities. The first was the "hard" reality of locating, designing, and constructing a shop, stocking it with the best yarns, patterns, and accessories, and testing accounting and business systems that were user and customer friendly.

Equally as important was the second, "softer" business of creating a philosophy and culture that was deeply personal. "Customer Service" kept popping up at every turn. From our motto "Your Project is Our Passion" to our generous return policy, we recognize that we wont succeed without satisfied and passionate customers. Our stock can grow. Our commitment to you must be boundless from the start...

Look for these features that set WoolWinders: A Knitting Salon apart:

  1. We are on Your Schedule. Not Ours. We are open seven days a week, including Sundays. We know what is like to have a weekend filled with errands. Cant get to us on Saturday? No problem. Visit us on Sunday from 12 to 5. And we are open until 8 PM on Thursdays as well.

  2. Bring the Kids. We KNOW it is difficult to find sitters all the time. So if you cant leave the children, bring them. We have a small childrens play area in the back of the store complete with toys, and books. And yes, you CAN use our restroom.

  3. Try Before You Buy... We have sample skeins of many yarns for you to try before you buy. And two tables for you to relax, drink some coffee, and chat with other knitters. Just watch your drinks carefully, OK? We cant be responsible for spills.

  4. Help is Free. Stuck on a pattern? Bring it in. We offer quick help free of charge providing you purchased your project at WoolWinders (and if we have time, even if you didnt), If you need further assistance, or need to learn some new techniques beyond a quick fix we offer private lessons at $35/hr. Day or evening hours are available.

  5. Talk to Us. Got a favorite yarn, designer, accessory you dont see? Want to learn Fair Isle, Finishing, or Entrelac? Tell us. We are open to all suggestions.

  6. RETURN/SPECIAL ORDER POLICY: We want our customers to be happy with their purchases.

PLEASE KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS. We will accept all* unused/unopened yarn bought at WoolWinders: A Knitting Salon for credit or exchange within thirty (30) days of purchase. Needles, books, notions and patterns are exchangeable only if they prove to be damaged or duplicates. This must be discovered within three (3) days of purchase. *SALE/DISCOUNTED ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED FOR REFUND OR EXCHANGE. THIS INCLUDES ITEMS BOUGHT DURING SALES OR PROMOTIONS AS WELL AS ITEMS PURCHASED ON FREQUENT BUYER OR BIRTHDAY DISCOUNTS. The only exception to this is the purchase of one extra skein as suggested below.

If you purchased with a credit card, your account will be credited. If you paid with cash or check, you will receive cash or store credit, providing goods are in their original packaging and are unused. We encourage you to purchase an extra skein in the same dye lot.
