Summer 2008 Class Schedule

The Summer 2008 Class Schedule is available here.
Sundays in the Salon

We continue our wildly popular SUNDAYS IN THE SALON this summer with a combination of gift ideas and small projects that will keep you challenged and inspired.

Missing the larger projects? We have moved those to SATURDAY KNITALONGS. Check out that schedule as well. We begin each project the first Saturday of the Month and work on the project from 2-4 each successive Saturday.

Please note: The SUNDAYS IN THE SALON and SATURDAY KALS are NOT substitutes for Beginning Knitting Instruction. All sessions require you to possess basic knitting skills: Casting On, Knitting, Purling, and Binding off. If more advanced skills are required, they are listed.

June 1: Place Mats: Tired of afghans but don’t want to worry about fitted garments? Knit these cotton placemats. Perfect for your beach house or deck table!

June 8: Lace Anklets: Get ready for tennis (or at least tennis shoes) with these adorable lace anklets. Again, there is prep work for these, so be sure to check with the shop. This is a great way to learn lace knitting.

June 15, 22, 29: Store Closed for Noni Bag Program

July 6: Cable Bag: Knit bags are all the rage and this one is easy and inexpensive. Made from the luxurious Venezia yarn, the combination of silk and wool knits to an elegant finish.

July 13: Booties for Babies: Join us in a charity project. Knit easy booties that will be brought to Zimbabwe personally, where the babies are in dire need of such items.

July 20: Easy Hat in the Round: The perfect project for a beginning knitter who wants to learn to knit in the round. Made from chunky yarn (the alpaca is delicious), this rolled watchcap is coveted by kids and adults everywhere!

July 27: Mystery Crochet Project: We’re on vacation, so you know what that means! Crochet RULES!!!! Join Marietta or Heather on a mystery tour of crochet. Project will be announced prior to our departure!

August 3: Beaded Bag: One skein of the elegant BEADED SILK yarn makes this lovely evening clutch. It will become your favorite fashion accessory!

August 10: Linen Tie: Get your son ready for his first job with this lovely linen stitch tie. One of our most popular Sunday programs!

August 17: Multidirectional Scarf: Any yarn, any width—is it a scarf? A shawl? You decide. And while you’re making it you are learning all about short rows!

August 24: Undulating Scarf: With or without beads, this is a great way to learn lace knitting. We’re making our model from the lovely Schaefer Yarn Susan, and we’ll show you other yarns to use!

September 7/14: Shrug: We made this last spring using Bamboo and then used a wonderful merinot to make one for the fall. This is the shrug that looks good on EVERYONE and is a quick and easy lace knit!

September 21: Mitered Bag: knitting is a lot of fun, and this is an uncomplicated way to learn it. You ‘ll learn about modular knitting AND felting while making this bag.

September 28: Button Wrap: Perfect for cooler fall weather, this is a simple rectangular wrap done in a mistake rib pattern and secured with three large buttons. We’ll teach you to make buttonholes, don’t worry!!!

Saturday Knitalongs

Our Saturday KALS have taken on a life of their own! Join the group for wine, snacks, and knitting your project each Saturday of the month. You don’t need to attend every session, but we do recommend that you attend the first week to get some basic instruction and guidance.

JUNE: BEACH BAG. Knit yourself a Beach Bag that will carry you and all your gear through the summer! The perfect stressless knitting—no shaping or fit!

JULY: FINISHALONG. OK, we’ve succumbed. Our customers have begged us for an opportunity to finish their numerous projects and they’ve promised that once done, Fos provide an opportunity to buy yet more yarn! So bring in your unfinished projects from past months or years (hopefully purchased here! Marietta will be on hand to assist with seaming and other finishing issues.

AUGUST: BABY OWL SWEATER. The adorable sweater hanging up above our cashstand catches everyone’s eye. Believe it or not, the pattern is from 1966! You can make this for an infant or toddler depending on yarn choice and is a great way to learn cabling. With five Saturdays in August, we bet you’ll finish the sweater during the month!

SEPTEMBER: TOP DOWN RIBBED SWEATER. Learn a new direction in knitting! If you’ve never knit from the top (or even if you have )this is a wonderful pattern, as it is shaped to a flattering line through ribbing. Any worsted weight yarn will do (we used the lovely NANCY from SCHAEFER YARN). The great thing about top down? Minimum (or no) finishing required!
