THIS WEEKEND @ WOOLWINDERS
First off, since it is STILL January, we will be finishing up the FELTED CLOGS at the Saturday KAL. For all you eager beavers, the PEACE OF MY MIND Shawl starts NEXT Saturday, when it is, in fact, FEBRUARY. And yes, the model is now at the shop draped on the lovely KNITASHA PURL WOOLWINDER, our mannequin. The shawl was made with five skeins of KOIGU or about 875 yards of sport weight yarn. The BLUE SKY ALPACA or ALPACA/SILK is a lovely substitution if you want a solid color.
And don’t forget that Saturday is the LAST DAY of the SHOW ME THE DISCOUNT promotion. There are still 40 and 50% off coupons in the basket, so if you are feeling lucky, now is the time to shop! And even if you’re not, you are still guaranteed at least 10% off your purchases, excluding programs, lessons, classes and finishing.
On Sunday, join MARIETTA for a bi-partisan show of fiber craft. She will show knitters who at least have basic crochet skills (i.e. hold a hook correctly, chain and sc) how to do some fabulous crochet edgings on knit pieces. Please bring a 6” × 6” swatch that is KNIT in either stockinette or garter stitch. The program will run from 2-4 PM (plenty of time to get home for that Superbowl party) and is free of charge.

AH THE POWER OF THE GLOBAL EMAIL!
Thanks to our friends at CONSTANT CONTACT (hey, we’re happy to give them credit!), we have only FOUR SLOTS remaining for the MARGARET FISHER program on Sunday, March 15. One space remains in the morning session, three in the afternoon. So if you want to participate, please call us asap. We will be starting a wait list.

STORE CLOSURE TODAY
The latest weather report is predicting several inches of snow and icy conditions throughout today, so we will close up shop in the interest of safety. Everyone stay in and enjoy your knitting and crocheting, ok?
Please note that the TUESDAY EVENING SAFARI is also cancelled for tonight. We will meet again next week.

WHILE THE CAT'S AWAY.....
We crochet! We are not going to be at the shop Sunday, and our customers know what THAT means—a CROCHET SALON led by the lovely and uber-talented MARIETTA. And we have a special one planned: CROCHETED EDGES FOR KNITTERS. How’s that for the spirit of bi-partisanship? If you have basic crochet skills, you can handle this. Please bring a KNITTED SWATCH that measures 6” × 6”. Marietta will teach you four different edgings that will led pizazz to any knitted object. The swatch should be in either stockinette or garter stitch.
The program is free and runs from 2-4 PM on Sunday. Please call to reserve a spot so we make sure we have a place at the table for you!

NEW ARRIVALS AT SHOP
We are busy receiving and ticketing the new MANOS that has arrived; as we wrote in a previous blog entry there has been a slight price increase (just $1.00/hank). But the good news is that we are now fully stocked with all the beautiful variiegated ones including the ever-elusive WILDFLOWERS 113.
Also in, the new Vogue Knitting Magazine. Which we will peruse after we have completed our Manos chores.

MIGHT AS WELL FACE IT, WE'RE ADDICTED TO COWLS.
OK. We have found the PERFECT small and portable project for those who have knit enough socks. What could be better than a COWL? They are incredibly practical in cold weather (and fashionable too), they require very little time or yarn, and they go amazingly quickly (we did four last week!). If you are tired of scarves, done with socks for the time being, and reluctant to embrace a big winter project with spring yarns just around the corner, join us this SUNDAY from 2-4 PM for (drumroll please) A QUARTET OF COWLS. That’s right, we will give you all four patterns that we used, including the one designed by our very own KERRY ROSS. You will need about 150yards of either DK or WORSTED yarn and 16” circular needles (bring 4s, 5,s and 7s to be on the safe side). And we’re guessing that if you don’t have it finished by the end of the program, you will be really close. To tempt you, here are two samples. You will have to come to the program to see the other two:

As always, the program is free of charge but you will need to register by calling us at 240.632.9276.
