WINTER 2010 Class Schedule
The WINTER 2010 Class Schedule is available here.
Winter provides an opportunity to get back to your own knitting and crocheting! Enough of the selfless gift giving. Take a deep breath and join us this winter for the Saturday Knitalongs and/or our shorter Sunday in the Salon programs. All programs are FREE OF CHARGE and are held from 2-4 PM. Please respect our policy and work with yarns purchased from WoolWinders. Thanks!
February 7: Snowboard Hat: Get out your big needles and superbulky yarn for this weekend knit that will keep your head warm through the rest of the winter!
February 14: Felted Ballet Slippers: Love to make slippers but hate doing short rows? This is the pattern for you. Knit flat and sewn together—add a great button and you are good to go!
February 21: Reverse Cable Scarf: One of our most popular programs. We will teach you to make a scarf that has cables on both sides.
February 28: Pocket Scarf: Keep your hands toasty warm in this really easy and yet unique scarf.
March 7: Cable Headband: As spring approaches, you might not need the warmth of a whole hat. Make this headband instead.
March 14: Laurel Pram Blanket: We are often asked “What can I do with ONE SKEIN of Laurel”? Here’s your answer. The very talented Stephanie designed a few “pram” or stroller blanket patterns that are featured in the Spring Newsletter. And we’ll show you how fantastic they are!
March 21: Felted Oven Mitts: Get a jump on Mother’s Day gifts with these clever oven mitts that are knit and then felted for ultimate protection!
March 28: Spring Crocus Tote: Welcome in spring with a felted tote that features the first seasonal flower as embellishment.
Join us each Saturday for longer Knitalongs. Whether you want these fall beauties to end up as gifts to yourself or others is totally your call! All programs are free of charge and run from 2-4 PM. Please respect our shop and work with yarn purchased from WoolWinders.
JANUARY: Fair Isle/Aran Afghan Squares Requires more advanced knitting skills, including pattern reading. Join Paige as she guides your through both the Fair Isle and Aran (cable) techniques to make a beautiful afghan.
FEBRUARY: February Lady Sweater. OK, corny, we know. But let’s celebrate the month with its eponymous sweater. And it’s flattering to boot.
MARCH: Laurel Shawl Make this beautiful lace shawl out of the hand-dyed Laurel yarn to welcome in spring!

WEEKEND AT WOOLWINDERS
Lots going on this weekend, which ushers in NOVEMBER, believe it or not. If you are NOT on our email mailing list, take a few moments to sign up over the next few days by scrolling down the left side of this home page and following the prompts. We are sending out an important email on Wednesday that you don’t want to miss.
This weekend we begin our NOVEMBER KNITALONG with three options to make a gorgeous holiday wrap. We will have a model for one, and patterns for them all. They range in challenge level from a fairly mindless great-travel-in-the-car project to the ultimately challenging kicked-our-butt wrap. So pick whichever one you want based on your experience level and just how hard you want to work (or how much you want to think!!!) If you want to do the Ruana shown in the second image below, you will need a copy of LACY LITTLE KNITS.

On Sunday, we have changed the project to the very popular FELTED BOWLS. These quick and easy knits make great hostess gifts—you can fill them with nuts, candy and the like and they make really cute centerpieces as well. Just ask KERRY who made one for each of the table at her son’s Bar Mitzvah!!! You will need about 130 yards of feltable yarn (like Manos or Cascade 109) and size 11 circular or dpns.

As always, both programs are free of charge, run from 2-4 PM, and offer refreshments. Just give us a call to sign up so we save a place at the table for you!

THIS WEEKEND @ WOOLWINDERS
OK, there promises to be really awful rain on Saturday. Don’t sit at home alone—come join us during out Saturday KAL from 2-4 PM. While several people are working on the WINDOWPANE sweater as suggested, other rebellious folks are doing their own thing. And we encourage that!!!
On Sunday, we have the perfect quick gift project for the colder months ahead—MOTLEY MITTS. We have made several pairs of these already and can attest to the facts that 1)They are adorable, 2) They take almost no time at all, and 3) You will be an expert at shortrowing by the end of the project. You will need a skein of CHUNKY yarn (think Manos or Alpaca) with a bit of contrast yarn at the same weight. Also Size 10 needles (straight or circs) and doublepoints to finish. Please pick up your yarn and have it wound prior to the start of the program at 2PM. We don’t want to take the time to do that once the program has started. And we are very sad to report that our swift has met with an untimely death, so for the time being we will be winding yarn around chairs, knees, etc. You can really help us out by winding your own yarn—we will be happy to show you how! And just thing—that provides you with additional time to play with your yarn! As always the program is free and runs from 2-4 PM. We have a few spaces left:

We feature the lovely JOJOLAND CASHMERE SCARF this Sunday from 2-4. The pattern is beautifully written and requires only basic knitting skills. We will teach you how to do the yarnovers and decreases that make this scarf so special. While it is written for CASHMERE, we have other options as well. Just call the shop at 240.632.9276 to save your space at the table from 2-4 PM this SUNDAY. As always the program is free of charge and refreshments are served!

WEEKEND @ WOOLWINDERS
First off, just a reminder that we are closed today for Yom Kippur. Everyone have a safe holiday.
We are excited about this weekend. Forget the GEC (Global Economic Crisis)! Come join our KAL (Knitalong) for a pleasant distraction. Our usual rowdy group of knitters are participating in SEVERAL projects including the targeted WINDOWPANE SWEATER. The program is free of charge, runs from 2-4 on Saturday, and provides company and snacks!
On Sunday, we continue the elegant CROCHET NECKLACE. Last week’s participants were treated to the sight of our attempt to crochet once again. By the end of the second hour, when DEB had completed the necklace to stunning results, we had completed TWO ROWS. Badly. Marietta ripped out our efforts, but we focused on the positive. We FINALLY know how to hold the hook comfortably and can execute not only one hell of a chain, but a single crochet worthy of note. Baby steps, folks. Baby steps. Our point is, if WE can do this, anyone can. The necklace takes one skein of silk (although some folks used the lovely sparkly GRAND OPERA) and about two hours time. Great gifts from $10-$25, huh? Join us. The program is also free of charge and runs from 2-4 PM. Hope to see you there!

HOLD THOSE HOOKS HIGH!!!
Just a reminder that our SUNDAY IN THE SALON today is dedicated to all those “hookers” out there. Come join us from 2-4 as we crochet an elegant silk necklace. This kicks off our “twelve weeks of CHRISHANUKWANZAA” in the salon. Create a new gift every week and keep pace with the upcoming holiday season. See you in the salon!
