WINTER 2010 Class Schedule
The WINTER 2010 Class Schedule is available here.
Winter provides an opportunity to get back to your own knitting and crocheting! Enough of the selfless gift giving. Take a deep breath and join us this winter for the Saturday Knitalongs and/or our shorter Sunday in the Salon programs. All programs are FREE OF CHARGE and are held from 2-4 PM. Please respect our policy and work with yarns purchased from WoolWinders. Thanks!
February 7: Snowboard Hat: Get out your big needles and superbulky yarn for this weekend knit that will keep your head warm through the rest of the winter!
February 14: Felted Ballet Slippers: Love to make slippers but hate doing short rows? This is the pattern for you. Knit flat and sewn together—add a great button and you are good to go!
February 21: Reverse Cable Scarf: One of our most popular programs. We will teach you to make a scarf that has cables on both sides.
February 28: Pocket Scarf: Keep your hands toasty warm in this really easy and yet unique scarf.
March 7: Cable Headband: As spring approaches, you might not need the warmth of a whole hat. Make this headband instead.
March 14: Laurel Pram Blanket: We are often asked “What can I do with ONE SKEIN of Laurel”? Here’s your answer. The very talented Stephanie designed a few “pram” or stroller blanket patterns that are featured in the Spring Newsletter. And we’ll show you how fantastic they are!
March 21: Felted Oven Mitts: Get a jump on Mother’s Day gifts with these clever oven mitts that are knit and then felted for ultimate protection!
March 28: Spring Crocus Tote: Welcome in spring with a felted tote that features the first seasonal flower as embellishment.
Join us each Saturday for longer Knitalongs. Whether you want these fall beauties to end up as gifts to yourself or others is totally your call! All programs are free of charge and run from 2-4 PM. Please respect our shop and work with yarn purchased from WoolWinders.
JANUARY: Fair Isle/Aran Afghan Squares Requires more advanced knitting skills, including pattern reading. Join Paige as she guides your through both the Fair Isle and Aran (cable) techniques to make a beautiful afghan.
FEBRUARY: February Lady Sweater. OK, corny, we know. But let’s celebrate the month with its eponymous sweater. And it’s flattering to boot.
MARCH: Laurel Shawl Make this beautiful lace shawl out of the hand-dyed Laurel yarn to welcome in spring!

SPRING CLASS SCHEDULE IS READY
Ready to learn a new knitting skill? Our Spring Class Schedule is ready and we have printed copies in the store. Our lovely web-mistress, Stacy, is busy updating our website with the schedule and should have it up by the weekend.
For Spring we are offering several new classes in addition to many old favorites. In addition to the popular SAFARI classes, we now offer KNIT CAFE’ - a similar concept in abbreviated form, on Thursdays from noon to 1:30pm. We’ve expanded our crochet classes so that we now have both BEGINNING CROCHET and ADVANCED CROCHET classes. And our always popular SOCK classes now come in three varieties - Basic (on DPNs), Socks on Circular Needles, and a new Toe-Up class. Be sure to check the schedule and sign up early; our classes are small and fill quickly.
When you stop by the store, be sure to check out the latest issues of INTERWEAVE KNITS and INTERWEAVE CROCHET. Both have an abundance of inspiring patterns; you are sure to find something to catch your eye.
Finally, we are pleased to say that we have received an order of needles from Skacel and are now well-stocked in ADDI TURBO needles.

UPCOMING EVENTS @ WOOLWINDERS
First off, we have rescheduled the CORONET HAT program for SUNDAY, MARCH 30 from 2-4 PM. If you signed up for the last one and you don’t want to attend this one, please let us know. If we don’t hear from you, we’ll assume you will be in attendance.
Next, the MARCH KNIT-ALONG is filled. It promises to be a wild and crazy ride as our rebellious participants did not agree on just which shell to do, so there will be about four projects going on simultaneously. Let the games begin!
Next, we are taking reservations for BLANKET SQUARES on Sunday, March 2. Join Kathy Cea as she walks you through three samples of 12” squares that can be used for a lovely afghan. This is a great way to learn cables, lace, and other stitch work. As always, the program is free and will run from 2-4 PM—we just need to know who will be in attendance.
Please note two schedule issues: We will close at 6 PM this Thursday, February 28. Late hours will resume next week on March 6. And we will be closed SUNDAY, MARCH 23 for EASTER.
Finally, we are completing the SPRING class schedule. It should be up on the website by the end of the week and will be in the shop by Tuesday. Take a peek. We have some great new classes scheduled and have added programs in the morning and at noon!

WE ARE CLOSED TODAY
We are going to err on the side of caution since the roads continue to be very icy and dangerous. We will remain closed all day and will reopen tomorrow morning. Everyone stay safe and enjoy a day of knitting at home!

WEATHER WATCH
Please note: we are supposed to be getting some really icky weather overnight. If the snow/ice/sleet combination that they are predicting does indeed arrive, we may have some closures and class changes. Just watch this site or call the shop. We are diligent about keeping you informed by both web and phone!

WEEKEND AT WOOLWINDERS
We’re ready for the weekend! Join us on Saturday for the final week of the SONNET KAL—the group has been having a great time. And on Sunday, our SALON program is one of our favorite gifts: PEDICURE SOCKS!

Treat your best girlfriend, or yourself, to these whimsical sox designed to keep your toes exposed while your feel stay toast warm! You will need approximately 200 yards of worsted weight yarn (avoid 100% cotton since it won’t cling the way it needs to!) and size 6 or 7 dpns. You should know how to knit socks to participate in this program. As always, it’s free of charge and will run from 2-4 PM.
Also, our THIRD shipment of BUTTERMILK COTTAGE knitting and accessory bags arrived today! We just can’t keep these in stock. Also a wonderful NASHUA pattern book: NATURAL FOCUS. The book is geared to the ECOLOGIE yarn but you can use anything that gauges at 5 to the inch. We have already scooped one of these books up and Paige can’t seem to leave them alone, so hurry in!!!

We have been called to Florida on a family emergency and so have to postpone the SUNDAY in the SALON program this week. If anyone shows up and hasn’t read this, we apologize, but our father is gravely ill and we have to fly down there. Please accept our apologies. The shop will be open this weekend, but we have to cancel some classes and programs.
IN ADDITION, PLEASE NOTE THE SHOP WILL BE CLOSED ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18, PRESIDENT’S DAY, AS WE WILL STILL BE IN FLORIDA.

THREE GINORMOUS BOXES FROM ROWAN...
arrived just as we had settled down to some serious bobble-making on this nasty rainy day. So up we popped to open, price, check in, and shelve all the gorgeous spring yarns and patterns. And we are not done yet—Rowan has let us know that more is on the way including the much-anticipated magazine ROWAN 43.
But here’s what we have so far. Books: Spring NASHUA BOOKS, KAFFE KNITS AGAIN, CALMER COLLECTION, ALL SEASONS AT THE MILL, and ORGANIC COTTON COLLECTION.
Yarns: NATURAL FOCUS ECOLOGIE COTTON, SUMMER TWEED, ALL SEASONS COTTON, DAMASK, BAMBOO TAPE, CALMER, REGIA COTTON SOCK YARN, and NASHUA APRIL. Is there anything more fun than matching up patterns and yarns at the beginning of the season? We think not. And as soon as we get everything out, we will begin the exercise!
