Just a reminder—we are asking you to sign up beginning a week in advance for both our SATURDAY KNITALONGS and SUNDAYS IN THE SALON. These will begin NEXT weekend-January 5 and 6. Both programs are FREE OF CHARGE and both run from 2-4 PM on their respective days.

SATURDAY KNITALONG: Join us on January 5 for the PRISM LACEY SHAWL. We believe that anyone wanting to participate has picked up their yarn and needles already; at least we hope so since we are out of the laceweight merino and very light on the Addi Lace needles. This shawl is gorgeous and a lovely way to learn lace knitting WITHOUT markers. We call this ADVENTUROUS level knitting.

SUNDAY in the SALON: We begin our month of FELTING with the FELTED MITERED BAG. If you have been curious about mitered squares, this is a perfect small project to satisfy that yearning. You will need two skeins of different color MANOS yarn as well as size 9 needles (either straight or circular).

We were thrilled to see KARINA walk through the door!!! For all of those who continually ask, she is doing great (as evidenced by the photo below), loves school and is just thriving in Los Angeles (sigh). We have really missed her!!!!

We will be hosting this project on Sunday, January 27; you can sign up the week before. And of course, no pets were harmed in the making or display of the bed. The animal residing in it at the shop is a stuffed kitty!

From one of our favorite people in the world, our friend AMANDA who worked wih us at Deloitte years ago. She was kind enough to send along a photo of new daughter GEORGIA in the CROCUS CARDIGAN we knit for a Christmas gift. The yarn was COLINETTE JITTERBUG, a pleasure to work with!

to those last minute shoppers who went to the store yesterday only to find it closed. We can imagine your frustration, and please accept our sincerest apologies. We had to stay off our feet and Lew spent the day playing nursemaid and running all of our errands for us. Trust us, we would have rather been at the shop than watching two toes on our right foot turn blacker as the day went on. Beware slippery decks to all those who have hot tubs!!!

We will reopen tomorrow, Wednesday, at 11 AM and hope to make it all up to you. In the mean time, Merry Christmas to all who celebrate. And happy knitting to all.

Sorry but our deck attacked Jacqui just as she was about to get into the hot tub last night. The result: a throbbing broken toe, which is still too tender to walk or get around on. Since all of our staff is off enjoying the holidays with their families, we won’t be open today. We hope you haven’t been as naughty as Jacqui over the past year and that Santa brings you all the yarn you’ve been dreaming about. If not, we will be open on Wednesday at 11AM so you can buy what you really wanted to receive!

The weather report for this coming weekend is unpredictable to say the least. We are expecting some nastiness, but there doesn’t seem to be any consensus as to when or how severe. So please, if you are planning to head out to the shop for class, shopping, or the SUNDAY IN THE SALON, please call the shop or check the website. We are diligent about posting messages EARLY!!! If there is nothing mentioned by 8 AM, it means we are open, and all classes are being held!! All we can tell you is that while we were in NY this past weekend, the reports were incorrect EVERY TIME!!! So trust your instincts, check outside, and stay safe.

Speaking of the SUNDAY IN THE SALON, this weekend truly is a last minute gift. We are going to pick a few patterns from the 365 STITCHES calendar and teach you to make sachets. Lovely little notions for teachers, neighbors, colleagues. Come join us from 2-4 PM on Sunday, weather permitting. And you will need one or two skeins of DK Weight yarn and size 6 needles. We have plenty of both.

Participants should try to complete the first 4 inches of the bag BEFORE coming to the salon. I made 20 copies of the pattern this week so there should be plenty. The first four inches is simply knitting st st in the round (plus 1 row of basic eyelet) before we get to the Fair Isle patterning of the bag. I am assuming most people are going to need help with the Fair Isle part of the bag and that’s what they’re coming in for. If they don’t “knit ahead” they are going to be spending 2 hours knitting st st in the round or having to settle for making an FI swatch which isn’t what they want to do.

We do have plenty of the patterns, so come on in! If you want, just come at noon on Sunday and you can get the stockinette done prior to the start of the 2 PM program.

We are winding up our SUNDAYS IN THE SALON for 2007; only two more for the year. This week’s program, GIFT BAG, is filled. If you have signed up, please note a few things. First, although the bag is shown in FAIR ISLE, you do NOT need to do a stranded pattern. PAIGE, our resident Fair Isle expert, will be leading the program and will demonstrate the technique, but the two hour program is not a substitute for our Fair Isle class! That said, the materials required are: 200 yards of worsted weight yarn for the main color; 100 yards of contrast yarn, again worsted weight. Needles needed are 2 size 6 16” ones, plus a straight size 6 and a tapestry needle. We have gorgeous sample of the bag as well as plenty of yarn and needles for the project. The bag measures 8.5” × 11” when finished.

Next Sunday? Adorable and very quick SACHETS. The perfect last minute gifts. We have samples and openings; just give us a call.

Whether you knit or crochet, you can have fun with BAGS this season. Check out KERRY’S BOBBLE BAG! Isn’t it great? This is a NONI pattern and it is one of the most popular. Hint: make it with a group of friends, as Kerry did. That way, you can share the yarn for the bobbles!!!
