We continue our wildly popular SUNDAYS IN THE SALON this spring with a combination of gift ideas for grads, moms, and dads, along with some whimsical ideas for your favorite gift recipient—YOU!
Missing the larger projects? We have moved those to SATURDAY KNITALONGS. Check out that schedule as well. We begin each project the first Saturday of the Month and work on the project from 2-4 each successive Saturday.
March 2:Blanket Squares: Curious about cables? Longing to do lace? Planning an afghan for a graduation gift? Join us as we demonstrate several afghan patterns that can be sewn or crocheted together to make a gorgeous finished product. And we’ll even order the yarn you’ll need!
March 9:Self Fringed Shawl: Smell spring in the air? Get a jump on it with the perfect wrap for the cool weather. And wait until you create the fringe by dropping a bunch of stitches (deep breaths, everyone……)
March 16:Lace Anklet: Get ready for tennis (or at least tennis shoes) with these adorable lace anklets. Again, there is prep work for these, so be sure to check with the shop. This is a great way to learn lace knitting.
March 30:Coronet Hat (rescheduled from February): A lovely hat that will teach you to cable, kitchener stitch, and pick up stitches. One skein of Cascade 220 does the entire hat!
April 6:Reversible Lace Shawl: What a great way to learn lace—a nine stitch/two row repeat that creates a gorgeous lightweight shawl perfect for warmer days and evenings
April 13/20:Lacy Bamboo Shrug: Easy, quick and lovely. Can you ask for anything more? Five skeins of bamboo yarn and size 11 needles will make this lacy, openwork shrug perfect for spring and summer evenings.
April 27:Linen Stitch Tie: Is is knit? Is it woven? Find out while making this fantastic tie perfect for Father’s Day or your favorite grad! We made ours from one skein of Koigu but you can use any fingering weight yarn!
May 4:Easy Baby Booties: Looking for an inexpensive and charming baby gift? Check out these booties made from one skein of Koigu yarn. And they actually stay on the baby’s feet!
May 11:Closed for Mother's Day
May 18:Silk Ruffle Scarf: The perfect spring accessory—a simple neckwarmer done in the round that creates an eyecatching ruffle.
May 25:No program due to Memorial Day Weekend (the store WILL be open, though)
June 1:Place Mats: Tired of afghans but don’t want to worry about fitted garments? Knit these cotton placemats. Perfect for your beach house or deck table!
June 8:Lace Anklets: Get ready for tennis (or at least tennis shoes) with these adorable lace anklets. Again, there is prep work for these, so be sure to check with the shop. This is a great way to learn lace knitting.
June 15:Store Closed for Noni Bag Program
Our Saturday KALS have taken on a life of their own! Join the group for wine, snacks, and knitting your project each Saturday of the month. You don’t need to attend every session, but we do recommend that you attend the first week to get some basic instruction and guidance.
MARCH:CABLED SHELL. Get ready for spring. This DK weight shell is a blast to knit, and is far easier than it looks. Created from two cable patterns, it has a flattering line and is the perfect weight for wearing alone or under a jacket.
APRIL:LACE SAMPLER. If you have been eager to try lace, April is the month for you! We will give you the patterns for 12 lace squares that can then be sewn into a gorgeous sampler. Recommended yarn is CASCADE SIERRA—please come to the shop ahead of time to check out our stock—we can show you color cards and special order the yarn for you! This 42 X56” afghan will run you less than $150!
MAY:DIAGONAL TRIANGLE TANK. We call this the Miracle Tank—it looks good on everyone! Unravel the mystery of modular knitting while you knit this lovely sleevelee or short sleeve top. We recommend either the ARTYARNS Regal Silk yarn, Patricia Roberts DK, or Karabella Vintage Cotton. And we’ll spend a lot of time on gauge at the first session—in modular knitting you must get row and stitch gauge!
JUNE:BEACH BAG. Knit yourself a Beach Bag that will carry you and all your gear through the summer! The perfect stressless knitting—no shaping or fit!
It's always fun to come in after a day off. We arrived to boxes from Dale of Norway, Rowan, and Interweave Press. So we have restocked colors of BABY ULL, HEILO, DENIM, and CASHSOFT DK. And brand new to the store FAVORITE SOCKS and COUTURE CROCHET from Interweave! We also have back in the very popular YARN REQUIREMENTS GUIDE., which answers the age old question "How much yarn do I need for that sweater/poncho/blanket/vest......"

GOODIES FROM DESIGN SOURCE
Design Source, the company that imports MANOS and STRIA into the country, is one of our FAVORITE vendors! Why? They ship quickly, they bill accurately, and their yarns and patterns are consistently among our best sellers, and have been since we opened the shop. We simply can't keep MANOS in stock!!! So now we have all the variegated and restocks of the solids. Let the felting begin! Or make that quick cardigan or jacket, perfect for the cold weather that has finally arrived!
Or, on the other hand, if you are chomping at the bit to start that spring knitting, check out the beautiful colors of 100% cottonSTRIA we have in stock and two new pattern books: COTTAGE COTTON COLLECTION and COTTON COLLETION 4. How good are these books? We have made something every year out of collections 1, 2 and 3!!!!
As for this Sunday's program BREA BAG, we have only two spots left!!! So please call if you want to make this lovely unfelted bag, perfect for any season. You will learn different stitch patterns, how to use markers, and cables. You will need 430 yards of worsted weight yarn (held double), size 9 needles (which we are completely out of, so please bring your own!!!) , markers, and a cable needle. See you at 2 PM!

SILK KNITS AND SUNDAY IN THE SALON
First, we received a brand new book SILK KNITS filled with designs using silk yarns. What do we love about this book? Elaine Eskesen takes the time to give a WONDERFUL explanation of the various silks and silk blends, and why you should or should not use them for certain designs! Check out this lovely item.
And our SUNDAYS IN THE SALON continue to pack the house. Yesterday's felted bag went on without any regard to the snow and ice. 12 people learned to pick up stitches, create an I-cord bind-off, and a strap. Want to join us? Next Sunday we will learn about the BREA BAG (check it out on www.berroco.com). This non-felted bag is filled with cables, fancy stitchwork, and a decrease that forms a flower! Please sign up in advance (we have room for 12) and roll your yarn if it needs to be wound, prior to the program! You will need 430 yards of worsted weight yarn (held double) and size 9 needles.
Finally, we hope you have had a chance to meet HEATHER who is now working here on Sundays. She has jumped into the fray with both feet and is here to help with both knitting and crochet needs! Her bio is on the staff page.

AND THE DISCOUNT GOES ON!
Whenever we go to Vegas we love the fact that the people who work the change booths always wish you "GOOD LUCK" before you gamble. In fact, if they forget, we remind them. So when Barbara stepped up to the cash stand to pick her discount coupon, we respected the fact that she asked us to say "GOOD LUCK!" And we did. And she pulled a 30% coupon out of the bag!!!!
And yes, the 100% off coupon is still in the bag. We checked. So gather your purchases and try your luck for another 13 days! You will win anything from 10-100% off your total purchase price!
Finally, we received two big boxes from DALE OF NORWAY today. Although a few colors of BABY ULL were backordered, we received about six others, along with restocks of the ultra-soft cotton STORK.

WE FILLED THE SUNDAY POSITION!
We filled our Sunday opening with the lovely HEATHER; you can come meet her this week! We were impressed by many qualities of hers: her obvious love of yarn and all things fiber, her energy, her enthusiasm, and most of all her unflappability last Sunday when we suggested she "stop by" to check things out. Little did she know she would be put to work winding yarn, ripping back cables, and the like. So thanks to others who called.
And we are now filled with CRYSTAL PALACE needles, winders, and swifts. Come and get 'em.

SUNDAY IN THE SALON
An early post for next week's SUNDAY IN THE SALON: My Little Companion. This is a very simple and cool felted bag that has an interesting I-cord bind off and strap. If you are planning to attend the program, please do the following
1. Call us and reserve a spot. We have room for 12.
2. Come in a purchase your yarn ahead of time. You will need 300 yards of Manos, Kureyon, or Scottish Tweed Aran. If the yarn needs to be wound, please wind it before the program! You can make a smaller bag with Julia. Or hold any of the yarns double and you will have a large tote. We have plenty of needles.
3. Take a pattern, and start the bottom. You will simply knit 20 ridges (40 rows).
We will start the program by demonstrating how to pick up stitches to work in the round. We will also demonstrate the I cord bind off and strap! We are furiously working on our bag, so we may not have a complete one to show you!
