We continue our wildly popular SUNDAYS IN THE SALON this spring with a combination of gift ideas for grads, moms, and dads, along with some whimsical ideas for your favorite gift recipient—YOU!
Missing the larger projects? We have moved those to SATURDAY KNITALONGS. Check out that schedule as well. We begin each project the first Saturday of the Month and work on the project from 2-4 each successive Saturday.
March 2:Blanket Squares: Curious about cables? Longing to do lace? Planning an afghan for a graduation gift? Join us as we demonstrate several afghan patterns that can be sewn or crocheted together to make a gorgeous finished product. And we’ll even order the yarn you’ll need!
March 9:Self Fringed Shawl: Smell spring in the air? Get a jump on it with the perfect wrap for the cool weather. And wait until you create the fringe by dropping a bunch of stitches (deep breaths, everyone……)
March 16:Lace Anklet: Get ready for tennis (or at least tennis shoes) with these adorable lace anklets. Again, there is prep work for these, so be sure to check with the shop. This is a great way to learn lace knitting.
March 30:Coronet Hat (rescheduled from February): A lovely hat that will teach you to cable, kitchener stitch, and pick up stitches. One skein of Cascade 220 does the entire hat!
April 6:Reversible Lace Shawl: What a great way to learn lace—a nine stitch/two row repeat that creates a gorgeous lightweight shawl perfect for warmer days and evenings
April 13/20:Lacy Bamboo Shrug: Easy, quick and lovely. Can you ask for anything more? Five skeins of bamboo yarn and size 11 needles will make this lacy, openwork shrug perfect for spring and summer evenings.
April 27:Linen Stitch Tie: Is is knit? Is it woven? Find out while making this fantastic tie perfect for Father’s Day or your favorite grad! We made ours from one skein of Koigu but you can use any fingering weight yarn!
May 4:Easy Baby Booties: Looking for an inexpensive and charming baby gift? Check out these booties made from one skein of Koigu yarn. And they actually stay on the baby’s feet!
May 11:Closed for Mother's Day
May 18:Silk Ruffle Scarf: The perfect spring accessory—a simple neckwarmer done in the round that creates an eyecatching ruffle.
May 25:No program due to Memorial Day Weekend (the store WILL be open, though)
June 1:Place Mats: Tired of afghans but don’t want to worry about fitted garments? Knit these cotton placemats. Perfect for your beach house or deck table!
June 8:Lace Anklets: Get ready for tennis (or at least tennis shoes) with these adorable lace anklets. Again, there is prep work for these, so be sure to check with the shop. This is a great way to learn lace knitting.
June 15:Store Closed for Noni Bag Program
Our Saturday KALS have taken on a life of their own! Join the group for wine, snacks, and knitting your project each Saturday of the month. You don’t need to attend every session, but we do recommend that you attend the first week to get some basic instruction and guidance.
MARCH:CABLED SHELL. Get ready for spring. This DK weight shell is a blast to knit, and is far easier than it looks. Created from two cable patterns, it has a flattering line and is the perfect weight for wearing alone or under a jacket.
APRIL:LACE SAMPLER. If you have been eager to try lace, April is the month for you! We will give you the patterns for 12 lace squares that can then be sewn into a gorgeous sampler. Recommended yarn is CASCADE SIERRA—please come to the shop ahead of time to check out our stock—we can show you color cards and special order the yarn for you! This 42 X56” afghan will run you less than $150!
MAY:DIAGONAL TRIANGLE TANK. We call this the Miracle Tank—it looks good on everyone! Unravel the mystery of modular knitting while you knit this lovely sleevelee or short sleeve top. We recommend either the ARTYARNS Regal Silk yarn, Patricia Roberts DK, or Karabella Vintage Cotton. And we’ll spend a lot of time on gauge at the first session—in modular knitting you must get row and stitch gauge!
JUNE:BEACH BAG. Knit yourself a Beach Bag that will carry you and all your gear through the summer! The perfect stressless knitting—no shaping or fit!
One of the most oft-requested yarns is a good, soft, sturdy superwash. You know the type-a well-priced yarn that can take a beating in use and care. Well, we found it! Come and check out the CASCADE 220 SUPERWASH. This fantastic worsted weight yarn is perfect for afghans, baby/kids clothes, and those wonderful things you want to knit for kids to take to college or camp. Lynne, our designated fiber abuser, reports that the yarn does beautifully in both the washer and dryer. And the colors? Fabulous! Bright, clear, and lustrous. The price? A generous 220 yards for $10.99! How great is this yarn? So great that we actually cancelled a similar yarn from a competitor because it just wasn't as good. Who's got your back? WoolWinders, of course!

SUNDAY IN THE SALON
You loved 'em in the Eighties and they're hot in the new millenium! That's right, we will be knitting LEG WARMERS this Sunday in the Salon. We have it on good authority (a 16 year old and her 13 year old sister) that these are in fact the must-have accessory in school! So get ready to make a quick, hip gift for someone. As an alternative, you can knit them for yourself, dig out your old Jane Fonda Workout Video and get moving!
As always, the program is from 2-4 and is free of charge. The pattern we have calls for NORO KUREYON (2 skeins), which makes for extremely colorful leg warmers. We have plenty on stock, and other options as well. You can knit these beauties either in the round on size 9 16" circs, or on straight 9s and seam them up. Your choice.
And be prepared for appropriate 80s music on the XM! Duran, Duran anyone???????

A WELCOME TO PAIGE AND KOIGU!
We welcome two fabulous favorites back to WoolWinders today. First, many of our customers remember PAIGE WAFFLE, an early employee of the shop. Paige took some time off to spend time with her lovely family; the boys are older now and she has returned to work with us. We couldn't be happier! Her bio and picture should be back up on the staff page soon, but until then, come in and welcome her to the shop. She will be "floating" during the busy fall and will resume a fixed schedule come spring.
And another favorite, KOIGU YARN, is in the shop! We received about 2/3 of our order; there is plenty of yarn to make the two shawls featured in our late fall classes: TRES JOLIE ann CHARLOTTE'S WEB. The yarn is also a favorite for socks, kids things, and sweaters because it is machine wash/dry in amazing colors. If you haven't knit with Koigu, trust us, you will love it. And if you have, you know how quickly it flies out of here, so hustle on in!

SUNDAY IN THE SALON IS FILLED!
Please note that this Sunday's program, THE BEST FRIEND BAG, is filled. We had to take sign ups because with beading you must have table space. We have been having a tremendous response to these programs; last week we literally ran out of chairs! So stay tuned. But for those of us who called about this Sunday and signed up, you will need the following: 1 skein of PASHMINA CASHMERE (or a suitable small gauge substitute), CABLE NEEDLE, SIZE 3 NEEDLES, and 1 TUBE OF #8 BEADS. The beads can be purchased at any number of spots around town--ACCENT BEADS on Nebel St., BEADAZZLED in the KENTLANDS, or AC Moore.
See you at 2 PM!

NEW NORO, CTH, AND ARTYARNS
We walked in this morning to find that some goodies had been delivered on our days off. The new NORO UNLIMITED by JANE ELLISON is here, and the designs are outstanding. Whether you want to knit sweaters or accessories, perform complicated stitch work or just knit on the gorgeous NORO yarns, she has a design for you.
Also in, 20 more skeins of CHERRY TREE HILL SUPERSOCK MERINO. This is fabulous sock yarn. Hand dyed, superwash/supersoft merino, the yarn is one of our best sellers, and a favorite of our sock teachers KATHY and MARIETTA.
And the amazing IRIS SCHRIER of ARTYARNS has done it again. We are now fully stocked with her gorgeous SILK RHAPSODY, which we are eyeing for our holiday sweater, and have a couple of new colors of REGAL SILK.
More to come! We are expecting MOUNTAIN COLORS and KOIGU any day......

GOT WOOL?
Two of our favorite wools came in today. First, the fabulous MANOS DEL URUGUAY in some much-needed variegated colors. Check out the vest hanging in our store window! We made it in about a week from Judith's new design book. It's pretty cute!
And one of our sentimental faves, the gorgeous 100% LAMBSWOOL from PATRICIA ROBERTS. Her colors are yummy, the yarn is divine. We love this DK Weight wool; it is perfect for both textured and color knitting and we know you will love both the hand and wearability of the yarn.
And yes, we have SKACEL needles back in stock. So whether you need them for knitting or wearing as headbands (this is our latest suspicion, given the number we sell on a daily basis!) you can find them here.
