    WINTER 2010 Class Schedule

The WINTER 2010 Class Schedule is available here.
    Sundays in the Salon

Winter provides an opportunity to get back to your own knitting and crocheting! Enough of the selfless gift giving. Take a deep breath and join us this winter for the Saturday Knitalongs and/or our shorter Sunday in the Salon programs. All programs are FREE OF CHARGE and are held from 2-4 PM. Please respect our policy and work with yarns purchased from WoolWinders. Thanks!

February 7: Snowboard Hat: Get out your big needles and superbulky yarn for this weekend knit that will keep your head warm through the rest of the winter!

February 14: Felted Ballet Slippers: Love to make slippers but hate doing short rows? This is the pattern for you. Knit flat and sewn together—add a great button and you are good to go!

February 21: Reverse Cable Scarf: One of our most popular programs. We will teach you to make a scarf that has cables on both sides.

February 28: Pocket Scarf: Keep your hands toasty warm in this really easy and yet unique scarf.

March 7: Cable Headband: As spring approaches, you might not need the warmth of a whole hat. Make this headband instead.

March 14: Laurel Pram Blanket: We are often asked “What can I do with ONE SKEIN of Laurel”? Here’s your answer. The very talented Stephanie designed a few “pram” or stroller blanket patterns that are featured in the Spring Newsletter. And we’ll show you how fantastic they are!

March 21: Felted Oven Mitts: Get a jump on Mother’s Day gifts with these clever oven mitts that are knit and then felted for ultimate protection!

March 28: Spring Crocus Tote: Welcome in spring with a felted tote that features the first seasonal flower as embellishment.

    Saturday Knitalongs

Join us each Saturday for longer Knitalongs. Whether you want these fall beauties to end up as gifts to yourself or others is totally your call! All programs are free of charge and run from 2-4 PM. Please respect our shop and work with yarn purchased from WoolWinders.

JANUARY: Fair Isle/Aran Afghan Squares Requires more advanced knitting skills, including pattern reading. Join Paige as she guides your through both the Fair Isle and Aran (cable) techniques to make a beautiful afghan.

FEBRUARY: February Lady Sweater. OK, corny, we know. But let’s celebrate the month with its eponymous sweater. And it’s flattering to boot.

MARCH: Laurel Shawl Make this beautiful lace shawl out of the hand-dyed Laurel yarn to welcome in spring!

    MANOS DEL URUGUAY

The year-round popularity of Manos Del Uruguay yarn continues to delight us. It seems we can never keep this gorgeous 100% wool in stock! Whether for felting a bag, knitting a jacket, or crocheting a scarf, MANOS meets everyone's needs. The colors are magnificent, and the variegated colorways in particular are memorable. We are now restocked with some of the most popular colors, including the often-backordered and elusive 113-WILDFLOWER.

Just in thanks to John the UPS Guy: fabulous colors of one of our FAVORITE summer yarns GIOTTO, more colors of DALE BABY ULL (and more on the way), and a wonderful new book for all levels of knitters: FUNKY and CHUNKY KNITTED ACCESSORIES. Check out the stuff! Spring is a wonderful time to knit!

BABY ULL IS IN THE HOUSE

About two weeks ago, we turned around to discover we were almost completely out of BABY ULL. Out went a fax to the nice folks at Dale of Norway, who never received it!!! So we followed up on Monday, and today John the UPS Guy walked in with a big box of this wonderful washable baby yarn! We have a range of colors with about six more coming in a few days.

    ERIN GO YARN!

We love holidays at WoolWinders. Come join us for our annual ST. PATRICK'S DAY SALE!!! 15% off any yarn that has even a wee bit o' the green or orange in it. ANY yarn! That means if you have been coveting the MANGO MOON kits or an ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS Colinette Afghan, it's yours, for a 15% discount, if we can detect even the tiniest bit of green or orange in any of the yarns. Please note that this sale is on existing stock only (no special orders) and that any sale merchandise is non-refundable, even for an exchange. And since the discount is applied, we won't be doing our frequent buyer cards.

The sale begins today and runs through close of business Sunday, March 19. So come on in, scope out the beautiful yarns on sale, and take a St. Paddy's Day cookie or two. Yes, they will be topped with green sprinkles!

    WINDERS, SWIFTS AND YARN!

We returned from a quick trip South to open three boxes that John the UPS Guy had delivered. We FINALLY have both SWIFTS and WINDERS in stock--these make great gifts (Mother's Day is NOT too far off!) for any knitter in your life. And a great yarn to wind on them? MANOS of course! We can never keep this yarn in stock for too long, particularly the variegated colors. And we have plenty now.

And two of our favorite books are back in stock: SALLY MELVILLE THE KNIT STITCH and COLOR KNITTING. We worship at the shrine of Sally, as her patterns are terrific, her instructions even better. We have taken to recommending THE KNIT STITCH to our absolute beginners--the book is nothing short of empowering for those eager to move beyond scarves.

    CATCH THE KNITTING FEVER!

John the UPS Guy brought only two boxes to us today, but they contained much needed things from KNITTING FEVER. We now are restocked with three terrific NORO books: SIMPLY NORO, NORO REVISITED, and NATURALLY NORO. While these are patterns for Noro's wools, the spring yarns gauge the same. So enjoy!

And last week we looked at our beautiful DEBBIE BLISS CATHAY collection (one of our FAVORITE spring yarns) and discovered we had forgotten to order white! It is here now.

CAN'T YOU JUST SMELL SPRING IN THE AIR?

We can. Because John the UPS Guy rolled in six big boxes today filled with GORGEOUS NEW SPRING YARNS!!! First up, two offerings from Ella Rae (whose design books blew out of here over the winter): KASBAH and SHIBU. Both worsted weight cotton blends, these will make fabulous shells and lightweight summer sweaters. Come see all her beautiful colors!

Next, our second big box from BLUE HERON YARNS. These yarns never stay in the store long for good reason-the colorways are extraordinary and their rayon blends make the hand of the yarn incredibly soft without splitting fibers (yes, really!). We are now fully stocked with BEADED RAYON, COTTON RAYON WOVEN RIBBON, RAYON SEED, AND COTTON RAYON SEED. We abolutely love working with these yarn and have found them to be machine washable on gentle as well!

And from our friend Cheryl Schaefer, new colors of the silk lace weight ANDREA and silk boucle PATTY.

Finally, Unique Kolours sent us the March ABFAB kit of the month--you might have seen it in our newsletter. Denims, greys, and ivorys. We see a beach house for this afghan!

John also brought reorders including the popular 365 STITCHES A DAY CALENDAR, KNITTERS COMPANION, and CASHSOFT DK. Can't forget our staples in the excitement of spring yarns!

Also, please note that our SPRING YARN TASTING is filled. We can't wait to see you all.
